Are You Being Called By Reneer & Associates?

It doesn’t take much to fall behind on your debts. Many people who always paid their bills on time lose their jobs or become too sick to work. Debt collectors don’t always care, though. They want you to pay, and sometimes they break the law to make it happen.

Your Rights Under the FDCPA

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, or FDCPA, oversees the U.S. debt collection industry and gives you the right to take action when a collection agency violates your rights in ways like the following:

● Yelling and using obscene language
● Demanding that you pay a debt discharged in an earlier bankruptcy
● Calling you at inconvenient times and places
● Saying they will garnish your wages without a court order
● Calling you at work when your employer does not allow such calls
● Pretending to be police officers or federal agents

Alleged Violations against Reneer & Associates

According to PACER, on or around April 22, 2009, Reneer & Associates filed a lawsuit against an Arizona consumer to collect a debt that had been in default since 2002. When he contained the firm to point out that the debt was too old to collect, he allegedly received a letter that argued the contrary.

Feeling harassed by Reneer & Associates, the consumer got a free case review from a consumer lawyer and filed a claim for:

● Trying to collect an out-of-statute debt
● Using unfair means to collect a debt
● Misrepresenting the legal status of the debt

The matter was later settled.
