Are You Being Called By PMGI, LLC?*

Many consumers in the United States are harassed by debt collectors, sometimes for debts that they don’t even owe. Even if your debt is legitimate, collection agencies are legally prohibited from harassing you to recoup it.

Your Rights Under the FDCPA

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) prohibits debt collectors from harassing indebted consumers, as well as from bullying and making threats when attempting to collect on a debt. Actions like the following can result in heavy penalties and sanctions.

  • Raising their voice and making threats
  • Contacting you even after you’ve ordered them to cease communications
  • Calling you at inconvenient times and places, such as before 8:00 a.m. and after 9:00 p.m. in your time zone
  • Swearing and using profane language
  • Refusal to provide you with information about the debt
  • Demanding amounts that exceed the original debt

Alleged Violations against PMGI, LLC

According to PACER, in or around April 2013 a California consumer checked her credit report and saw a debt listed by PMGI, LLC. She denied recognizing the debt or entering into any kind of transaction with the company in the past, so she sent a dispute letter the following month. The company allegedly ignored it.

Feeling harassed by PMGI, LLC, she hired a consumer attorney and sued the agency for allegedly committing the following illegal debt collection practices:

  • Reporting inaccurate information to the credit bureaus
  • Failing to send her a debt validation notice
  • Using false, deceptive, and misleading means to collect a debt

The matter was later dismissed.
