The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, or FDCPA, was passed in 1977 to protect indebted consumers. It grants you the right to dispute a debt and tell collection agencies to stop calling you. It also prohibits collection tactics like those below.

  • Calling the intention of annoying and harassing you
  • Demanding payment for a debt that’s out of statute
  • Using profane or obscene language

According to PACER, on or around August 15, 2011, HOVG, LLC sent a collection letter to a Colorado consumer. He sent a dispute letter on August 22, stating that he refused to pay, but collection attempts allegedly continued.
