Are You Being Called By Edgewater Consulting Group, LLC?*

People who are struggling to manage debt often feel desperate and overwhelmed. It gets worse when debt collectors start trying to collect these accounts, as their methods are not always civil or even legal.

Remember, though, that whether you’re in debt because you were laid off, had a medical emergency, or simply mismanaged your money, the law says that you must be treated with respect.

Your Rights Under the FDCPA

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, or FDCPA, requires third-party collection agencies to follow certain guidelines when dealing with indebted consumers. Actions like those below violate the FDCPA and give you grounds to sue the debt collector.

  • Calling you at work when you’ve already told them that you can’t talk to them there
  • Swearing at you over the phone
  • Trying to collect more than you really owe
  • Reporting false information to the credit bureaus
  • Ignoring a formal request to cease communications
  • Threatening action they cannot legally take or have no intention of taking
