Are you being called by BGL Credit Ltd.?* Here’s what you need to know

Debt collectors can be unbelievably persistent and intense when it comes to getting your money. Sometimes they are civil and willing to work with you, but other times they are not. They will swear at you, call constantly and threaten to take you to court if you don’t pay. When this happens, it is important to stay firm and know your rights.

Your Rights Under the FDCPA

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), which is enforced by the Federal Trade Commission, regulates what third-party debt collectors can say or do when pursuing a debt payment. Actions like those below are illegal and repeat offenders can be shut down.

  • Call before 8:00 a.m. and after 9:00 p.m., in your time zone
  • Call you at work if they know or have reason to know what such calls are not allowed
  • Threaten to have you arrested or garnish your wages
  • Using profane and abusive language
  • Claiming to be police officials or government agents
  • Demanding amounts that exceed the original debt
