According to PACER, in or around mid-2014 CBM Services, Inc. began contacting a Michigan resident about a medical debt that she claimed to have paid before it was transferred to the agency. Ms. Peiffer informed CBM Services, Inc. that the debt had already been paid to the original creditor, but the company allegedly still continued to attempt to collect it.
Worried about damage to her credit, she reluctantly paid some of the debt to stop the phone calls that she claimed were incessant. She called the original creditor and told them that CBM Services, Inc. was continuing to collect the debt that had already been paid. The medical provider allegedly told her that it could not contact the agency for some mysterious reason.
Feeling harassed by CBM Services,, Inc., she hired a consumer attorney and sued the company for allegedly violating the FDCPA in the following ways:
