Called By AssetCare, LLC? Here’s What to Know

Consumer protection agencies receive complaints about collection agencies every year. People claim to have been yelled at, insulted, and harassed by phone at home and work. Some debt collectors even call your friends, family, or boss to embarrass you. If you find yourself in such a situation, it is important to know your rights.

Your Rights Under the FDCPA

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, or FDCPA, specifies what debt collectors may say and do while contacting you about a debt. Activities like those below can cause an agency to be fined or even closed down.

  • Calling at inconvenient times, usually before 8:00 a.m. and after 9:00 p.m
  • Telling you that you can be arrested and imprisoned
  • Using abusive and / or obscene language
  • Keep contacting you even after you dispute a debt
  • Discussing your debt with anyone except you, your spouse, or your attorney
  • Calling you at work after you’ve told them to stop
