Are You Being Called By Zee Law Group?* Here’s What You Need to Know

While debt collection is a legal business, the way that collection agencies perform their work is not always in accordance with the law. If you are faced with a company that left abusive messages on your voicemail, threatens to foreclose on your home, and is otherwise hostile, see a consumer lawyer about taking action.

Your Rights Under the FDCPA

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) is a federal statute that prohibits third-party collection agencies from bullying or deceiving you into paying a debt. It also gives you the legal standing to dispute a debt, request no further contract, and sue a debt collector who refuses to comply.

  • Using obscene language (such as swearing)
  • Persisting in trying to collect a disputed debt
  • Harassing you by telephone (such as repeatedly calling you)
  • Calling at inconvenient times, usually before 8:00 a.m. and after 9:00 p.m
  • Calling you at work when they’ve been advised that such calls are not permitted
  • Threatening legal actions they cannot take

Alleged Violations against Zee Law Group**

According to information on the PACER website, in or around 2009, Zee Law Group allegedly attempted to collect a debt from a California consumer by filing a lawsuit against him. He claimed that he never had an opportunity to dispute the debt or demand its validation.

He only knew about it when his paychecks started being garnished. The consumer added that representatives did not always identify themselves as debt collectors in all communications.

Feeling harassed by Zee Law Group, the consumer filed an FDCPA lawsuit against the firm for:

  • Using unfair and unconscionable means to collect a debt
  • Using false, deceptive, and misleading means to collect a debt
  • Failing to identify itself as a debt collector in all communications

The matter was later dismissed.
