According to PACER, in early 2017 Wyoming Credit Association, Inc. began contacting Wyoming resident James Knight to collect a consumer debt. He later alleged that in January 2017 he spoke to collectors who threatened him and said they had “other ways of collecting.” One collector allegedly called Mr. Knight’s employer and threatened to take the employer to court if the debt was not paid.
He finally entered into an oral agreement to have $50 removed from his personal checking account every fourth Friday, but claimed that collectors kept requesting payment of $100 a month from him.
Feeling harassed by Wyoming Credit Association, Inc., Mr. Knight hired a consumer attorney and sued the agency for allegedly violating the FDCPA in the following ways:
