Are you being called by Jones Law Firm? Protect your rights!
Many people who are being harassed by debt collectors do not know what their rights are. When a collection agency calls them constantly, discusses their debt with the consumer’s friends and family, and threatens lawsuits, they assume they can only stop the harassment by declaring bankruptcy.
The truth is that the law can help.
Your Rights Under the FDCPA
The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) is intended to prevent third-party debt collectors from harassing consumers. It was passed in 1977 and still prohibits bullying and deceptive collection tactics like the following:
- Ignoring a formal cease communications request
- Calling at all hours of the day and night
- Threatening to ruin your credit forever
- Using profane and obscene language
- Refusal to provide you with information about the debt
- Contacting you if they are aware that you are being represented by an attorney

William T. Holman, Jr. and Latasha Nicole Jackson Holman vs. Robert P. Jones and the Jones Law Firm**
According to PACER, sometime prior to February 6, 2015, Illinois residents William T. Holman, Jr. and Latasha Nicole Jackson Holman incurred a debt associated with a residential lease.
It was eventually assigned to the Jones Law Firm for collection. On April 7, the Holmans filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy, which invoked an automatic stay of a court action that the firm had commenced the previous March, but on April 28 the Jones Law Firm had a default judgment entered against the Holmans in favor of their former creditor.
On May 11, 2015, after learning that the Jones Law Firm had failed to cease collection efforts pursuant to the automatic stay, the Holmans’ Plaintiffs’ attorney contacted the firm and requested that they cancel a hearing scheduled for May 14, 2015.
The firm allegedly refused and had the default judgment entered.
Feeling harassed by the Jones Law Firm, the Holmans hired a consumer attorney and sued the firm for allegedly violating the FDCPA in the following ways:
The matter was later settled.
