Are You Being Called By Computer Credit, Inc.?

When debt collectors call you on a regular basis, you may be tempted to declare bankruptcy. While bankruptcy can give you a fresh start when debt is crippling your life, there are other ways you can stop a collection agency from harassing you.

Your Rights Under the FDCPA

In 1977, Congress passed the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, or FDCPA, after widespread complaints of harassment by collection agencies. It gives you the right to dispute a debt and punishes debt collectors who use tactics like the following:

● Failing to identify themselves as debt collectors
● Threatening legal actions they have no intention of taking
● Using obscene and threatening language
● Demanding amounts that exceed the original debt
● Calling you at work after you’ve told them that your employer doesn’t allow such calls
● Reporting false information to the credit bureaus
