Are You Being Called By Systems and Services Technologies?*

Many consumers in the U.S. live in constant fear of being contacted by a debt collector. They’ve been so stressed and traumatized by the phone calls and letters threatening lawsuits that they give serious thought to declaring bankruptcy.

If debt collectors are chasing you like this, remember that there are laws that protect debtors from harassment.

Your Rights Under the FDCPA

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, or FDCPA, is a federal law designed to protect consumers from illegal debt collection practices. Since 1977, it has set the standards that all third-party collection agencies must abide by, and prohibits behaviors such as:

  • Yelling, swearing, and using language meant to intimidate you
  • Refusing or failing to validate the debt and prove that they are authorized to collect it
  • Ignoring a formal cease communications request
  • Calling you before 8:00 a.m. and after 9:00 p.m. in your time zone
  • Discussing the debt with anyone except you, your attorney, and possibly your spouse
  • Leaving voice messages that do not identify the collector and the purpose of their call

Alleged Violations against Systems and Services Technologies, Inc.

According to PACER, on or around February 14, 2012 a Colorado woman checked her credit report and found that Systems and Services Technologies, Inc. was reporting payments on one of her loans as over 30 days late.

Concerned because she had always made the payments on time, she contacted the credit bureaus, who investigated and responded that the agency was confirming the alleged delinquencies.

Feeling harassed by Systems and Services Technologies, Inc., the woman hired an FDCPA attorney and sued the company for allegedly violating the FDCPA by reporting inaccurate information to the credit bureaus.
