A review of the records digitized and retained by the PACER (Public Access to Court Electronic Records) website suggests that some consumers who believed they were being harassed by Credit Service International Corp. dealt with the payment demands by going to court.

According to PACER, in December 2014 a Wisconsin resident received a collection letter from Credit Service International Corp. It demanded payment for a rental debt and added, “We do and will utilize whatever means necessary and permissible by law to protect our client’s interest and collect this debt.”

The original judgment was for $1,060.80 but the collection letter demanded $1,675.51. When she requested verification of the debt, she received an itemized statement with costs for legal fees for the eviction (dated before and after the judgment) and costs for cleaning a carpet, which she claimed was only dirty due to normal wear and tear.

Feeling harassed by Credit Service International Corp., she hired a consumer attorney and sued the company for allegedly violating the FDCPA in the following ways:
