Are you being called by Financial Adjusters, Inc.?* Here’s what you need to know.

When debt collectors are chasing you every day, hearing the phone ring can cause stress and anxiety, particularly if the agency assigned to your account is rude and aggressive when you say you can’t pay. Before giving serious thought to bankruptcy, see a consumer attorney instead, because unethical collection behavior violates federal law.

Your Rights Under the FDCPA

In 1977 Congress passed the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) to stop abusive behavior by third-party collection agencies. Under the FDCPA, collection actions like those below are illegal, and any company that employs them risks significant sanctions.

  • Using profane and obscene language
  • Calling at inconvenient times, usually before 8:00 a.m. and after 9:00 p.m.
  • Threatening action they cannot legally take or have no intention of taking
  • Threatening to damage your reputation and credit rating
  • Demanding amounts that are not supported by law or the agreement that created the debt.
  • Failing to identify themselves as debt collectors in all communications
