Stop the
Harassment

You have legal rights. We can help.

There are a lot of things debt collectors would rather you didn’t know. For example, they have the right to request payment from you, but they can’t threaten, bully, or deceive you into paying. They also can’t threaten to sue you if you don’t pay, although you are permitted to file a lawsuit against them when they violate your rights.

Your Rights Under the FDCPA

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, or FDCPA, is a consumer protection law that was originally passed in 1977 to protect indebted consumers from being harassed and bullied by collection agencies. It prohibits third-party debt collectors from using tactics like those below to collect a debt.

  • Calling at inconvenient times, such as before 8:00 a.m. and after 9:00 p.m. in the consumer’s time zone
  • Pretending to be police officers or government employees
  • Calling someone at their place of employment after being told that personal calls of this type are prohibited
  • Calling non-stop with the intention of annoying and harassing you
  • Ignoring your request to cease communications
  • Using obscene and / or abusive language
